ONE COURAGEOUS YOUNG LADY.....THAT HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE IN RACING
We have all sat in the stands, on hot summer nights. The smell of dirt in the air mixed with exhaust. Then comes the roar of the engines, as they round the corner...the race has begun! Have you ever wondered who some of the driver's are? Who is Triple Zero? Thats Stan Lewis aka "Mr. Excitement". But who is B57N? I can honestly tell you B57N is my sister, Natasha Newman, but who is she really? My mother, Terri Newman asked me to write about her, as requested by Boomer himself. Ladies and Gentlemen its an honor to tell you about this special girl. The day she was born my parents had her at Tri-state Speedway, in Pocola. I called her "Nat" Her tiny, fragile frame...she reminded me of a little nat with big eyes, but sweeter. She would sit in her carrier, next to mom. The sound of the motors, loud to most, soothed her to sleep. This became a Saturday Tradition in my family. Natasha has always been an outgoing person. She was brought up with the phrase "the sky has no limit". One hot summer day, at the age of 7. Natasha became a huge fan of ministock No. 75, Kyle Ledford. Anxious to meet him, she was introduced. He became her role model. No one really knows what was said between the two. This little person, barely left Kyle's side during race season. He gave her the inspiration and courage to do anything her heart wanted. At 8 years old she met Darwin Hale, another inspiring driver. Natasha has always been a tiny person, with a heart of gold. Everytime her favorite driver was near, her brown eyes sparkeld bigger than the sun! Finally, at age 9 Natasha couldn't stand it anymore, she wanted to be just like her role models. When she told us she wanted to race...our jaws hit the floor! A few of us even stuttered a little. No one really knew what to say. We knew this day would come. The shock factor was her size, age, and her desire to be on a dirt track, in the middle of machines traveling approx. 80 mph or more! Scary stuff for a little person. She refused to take "No" for an answer. My mother, Terri, gave Natasha the option to earn her chance. My sister, raised her own money and placed 2nd in Little Miss Tri-State Competition, accompanied by her star, Kyle Ledford. Nat also had to learn what it took to be a driver. She would spend countless hours in the pits with numerous drivers assisting and listening. She experienced the rush of a tire blow, engine malfunction, and the look on the driver's face with sweat and short breath of andrenaline, as they quickly tried to get back in the race. Nat even placed a car jack under Darwin Hale's car and raised it, during a "pit stop". She finally got her chance, in 2007, at the age of ten. Ken Peterson found, Nat, her first ministock Dodge, donated by Alvin Moran. The whole family dressed the truck in black and green (inspired by Darwin Hale's modified no. B57). Nat chose chipmunks as her theme and the phrase "Git Munked" on the tailgate. Decals were sponsored by "Fat Cat Graphics". Many, many hours spent by her family hand painting most of her designs and sponsors. When we were almost finished, we approached Tri-State to enter her, in her first race. She was to be known as the youngest driver Tri-State had ever seen! And a girl! They frowned on the idea. Called Nat an insurance liability. My sister's heart sank. Everyone wiped her tears away. My mother told her "Sometimes in life when you want something bad enough, it takes an act of Congress to make it happen, we will keep trying". We called everyone we knew, found the right "Racing Family" and learned that Crawford County Speedway was thrilled about Natasha! She was to have her first race July 16, 2009, her 11th birthday! When you ask Nat what is was like to run her first race you get "I was excited to run, and I did it without crashing". My mother will tell you her first season was just to "break her in, give her a feel for the track". My sister survived it with a smile! Although we did come across many technical difficulties, but sometimes that happens. This year is B57N Natasha "Nat" Newman's second year running. She got her first summer job, mowing yards to pay for pit passes and racing fuel. Her truck is decorated in red, silver, and blue. Featuring Disney's 'Lilo and Stitch Project: 626' as her theme. Her first day this year, was on July 17, 2010. So far, this season has been a gentle one compared to last. She only experienced a few problems, such as, a transmission bolt coming loose, brakes, and one dead battery. Nat's speed increases with every race, some may say her comfort level is settling in. Natasha is happy to tell you she survived her first accident, when she was accidently rear ended by Charles Parker, Saturday August 21, 2010. He was extremely apologetic afterwards. Natasha and Family would like send a warm Thanks and Sincere appreciation to everyone involved in making her dream possible. They are; Kyle Ledford, Darwin Hale, Alvin Moran, Richard Kunze, Donna and Dan "Chief" Bahr, Larry Campbell, Thurman Blanton, Scott Glover, Gina with TG Racing Photos, Fat-Cat Graphics, Amy Hale with A. Chartier's Embroidery, Gary and Cory Clark, Eric Beshoner, Ken Peterson, Ken Sturm, The Boyster Family, Victor Pinkerton, Michael Newman, Ricky Bartlett, and last but not least "Poppa" Eddy. Nat would like to extend a special thanks to her FANS and FAMILY for supporting her, and believing anything is possible. Autographs are available...."Just ask me" she says. We would also like to thank Boomer for allowing us to share her story. God Bless and we wish everyone a wonderful raceing season!

Wall and Owens Lead in Appliancezone Points Standings Heading to Final Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Events CORONA, CA (September 28, 2010) - The Appliance Zone sponsorship competition has been a great success in 2010 and is heading into the final two events of the year in the state of Georgia on October 9th and 10th. The final two events at Dixie Speedway and Rome Speedway will be instrumental in deciding which driver will receive the $70,000 sponsorship from Appliance Zone for the 2011-racing season. Chris Wall and Jimmy Owens continue to lead the two point's categories under the Appliance Zone sponsorship contest with Wall leading the fan voting portion and Owens leading the on-track point's category among the five drivers. Appliance Zone reps have set up a booth at several Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events and during the World 100 at Eldora Speedway in 2010 for fans to vote for their favorite driver during the season. Fans can also go online and vote for the driver he or she think deserves the 2011 sponsorship. Simply visit either www.appliancezoneracing.com or www.lucasdirt.com and click on the banner that is linked to the fan-voting page. The five LOLMDS drivers that were selected by Appliancezone.com are competing for the $70,000 primary sponsorship for the 2011-racing season. Jimmy Owens, Ray Cook, Don O'Neal, Chris Wall, and Steve Casebolt all are trying to win this unique contest. The criteria for winning the sponsorship are divided into three categories: on-track performance (points earned), fan voting at www.appliancezoneracing.com, and by a special panel vote from members of the media, Lucas Oil Products, Appliance Zone, and NASCAR drivers Clint Boyer and Bobby Labonte. For fans wanting to vote for their favorite driver, voting will continue until midnight October 10th. After fan voting has been closed, the website will be cut off and all fan votes will be totaled to determine which driver won the fan voting. After the final event at Rome Speedway on October 10th, the on-track points will be totaled up among the five drivers to determine which driver won that point's category as well. From that point, the special panel will determine which of the two drivers that won the fan vote portion and the on-track points category will receive the $70,000 sponsorship from Appliance Zone. All five drivers will receive a cash award at the series year-end banquet from Appliance Zone for participating in the contest this year. "We are thrilled on how well this contest has worked this year with the five drivers. They are all deserving of the sponsorship for their efforts and we really have enjoyed getting to know each one of them this year. for immediate news release contact: Larry Boos
FOUR CROWNS – FOUR WINNERS OVER ELDORA WEEKEND
ROSSBURG, OH (Sept. 24/25) – With four divisional crowns to wear over the weekend, four different drivers stepped to the plate to accept them at Eldora Speedway; and as if it were staged, it was in chronological order by age. The 29th annual Four Crown Nationals found Jac Haudenschild taking the hard fought World of Outlaw (WoO) main event on Friday, while Saturday’s United States Auto Club (USAC) action found Jerry Coons, Jr. (Midget), Levi Jones (Sprint) and Bryan Clauson (Silver Crown) in victory lane following their respective main events.
In a battle of the ageless veterans, it was Sammy Swindell starting on the pole of the 30-lap WoO finale. He took immediate advantage of that positioning by blasting into the lead in turn one. A spin by Todd Kane brought out an immediate yellow flag; followed by a quick red flag as Joey Saldana made contact with Swindell down the back stretch as the yellow appeared. Saldana went into a series of violent flips.
As a result, Saldana, who had just moved into the WoO points lead following the time trial session, was flown by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he was later released after multiple tests.
On the restart, Swindell continued where he left off, despite front nose wing damage from the Saldana contact. First it was Tim Shaffer hovering in second, with Danny Lasoski in third, before Lasoski kicked up the steam to move into runner-up position on lap five; bringing with him Haudenschild.
Lapped traffic came into play by lap 13 and it was enough to allow Haudenschild to fly past Lasoski, to set his sights on Swindell. A lap 18 rollover by Dean Jacobs again brought out the red bunting, at which time the pits were opened and the crews were allowed on the track to make minor repairs and add fuel.
The Swindell crew immediately went to work on the nose wing; but two laps into the restart action, the temporary repairs broke loose and Swindell was met with an ill-handling machine. That allowed the menacing Haudenschild to move even closer and on the 23rd circuit, he flew by the bewildered Swindell, who hung on for second at the checkered flag.
A high-flying Paul McMahan closed in late in the running to finish third, followed by Lasoski and Shaffer.
With the top mounted aerodynamic wings off and the focus on non-winged open wheel action, USAC took center stage on Saturday.
First to the plate were the Midgets, with Coons, Jr. the apparent class of the field.
The green flag dropped and Coons, Jr. entered into another zip code as the balance of the field battled for positioning behind him.
A lap eight red flag for a Shane Hmiel flip off of turn four stopped the action. Hmiel was not injured and the accident scene was quickly cleaned up; thus the USAC officials opted for a ‘closed’ pit area and no on-track repairs by the crews.
When the green flag re-appeared, Coons, Jr. again set sail for the checkered flag. As the laps began to wind down, a re-energized Clauson appeared to be gaining momentum and with three laps to go in the 25 lap chase, used the lapped traffic to reel in Coons, Jr. The large crowd was then treated to a classic run to the finish as Clauson caught and challenged Coons, Jr. right to the checkered flag, only to fall short by a matter of inches.
Following the duo across the line were Brad Kuhn, Tracy Hines and Bobby East.
Not to be outdone by that showing, the Sprint division took to the clay one-half mile oval next.
Three-time and defending champion Levi Jones earned the outside pole position through his time trial efforts and the veteran rail birds know that is the favored starting position at Eldora.
Jones used it to his advantage as the green flag waved into the night air and he instantly shot into the lead.
As if he didn’t get enough laps as runner-up in the previous Midget main, Clauson immediately dropped behind Jones to follow the leader in close pursuit. Damion Gardner and Jonathan Hendrick followed suit, as several caution periods slowed the pace on the 30-lap affair.
As the checkered flag loomed near, Jones maintained his positioning on top, with Clauson and Garnder comfortable in second and third. Behind that trio, position swapping was going on lap by lap, until the final rundown found Coons, Jr. coming home fourth and Bud Kaeding up to fifth at the finish.
With two runner-up finishes already on his plate, Clauson stepped to the table in the Silver Crown finale to settle the score and head for the main course.
He wasn’t to be denied as he outdistanced Silver Crown team mate Jones into the first turn and never looked back, to capture his first-ever Silver Crown victory.
Although out front the entire distance, the closing stages of the 50-lap chase found defending winner Dave Darland moving into the hunt with his time-honored Foxco machine. Darland began reeling in Clauson in the final ten laps, but ran out of time to get the job done and settled for runner-up honors, followed in order by Levi Jones, Shane Hmiel and Todd Kane.
Capturing the $750 Larry Rice High Performance awards for passing the most cars from start to finish in their respective feature events were Brad Kuhn (Midget), Dave Darland (Sprint) and Todd Kane (Silver Crown).

Bloomquist Takes 500th Career Victory at Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Jackson 100 BROWNSTOWN, IN (September 25, 2010) - Hall-of-Fame driver, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN won the 500th feature event of his illustrious career on Saturday Night in capturing the 31st Annual Jackson 100 at Brownstown (IN) Speedway. Bloomquist earned $20,000 for his third win in the annual event, which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Bloomquist took the lead on lap four after starting third. Seeking to become the first four-time winner of the race, Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN finished second just ahead of Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN. Completing the top five were Matt Miller of Waterville, OH and Chris Wall of Springfield, LA. "I have to thank so many people for getting to 500 wins, I wish Bob and Barb Miller were here to see this, they have been such an important part of my career. My wife, daughter, and my mom are here so I am glad they got to see this," said the 46-year-old driver. "To win number 500 here at Brownstown is special, it has been one of my favorite tracks to run on in my career, somebody said we got our 200th win here in 1991. The first time I came here I don't think I even made the race, the locals were so tough here to beat and with all the traveling guys racing it was quite a chore just to get into the field." Bloomquist, who started in third in the 100-lap affair, took the lead on lap four from O'Neal. Owens took over the second spot on lap six and challenged Bloomquist for the lead up until lap eleven when O'Neal passed him. O'Neal then picked the pace as the top three put on quite a show for the race lead. Bloomquist entered heavy traffic by lap 26 until a caution on lap 40 left Bloomquist with a clear track in front of him. On the restart Bloomquist pulled away from O'Neal and Owens as he set sail. Bloomquist saw a 12-car length lead shrink down to one length with 25 laps to go as he was having trouble negotiating lapped traffic. Bloomquist worked his way through more lapped cars, and put plenty of distance between himself and O'Neal when the checkers flew. With the win, Bloomquist stretched his lead in Lucas Oil Championship Points Standings to 260 points over Owens. Bloomquist was in his own self-designed chassis and is sponsored by Miller Brothers Construction, Hawkeye Trucking, and Sweet Mfg. A Roush-Yates Racing Engine powers his car. O'Neal was 2nd in the Independence Lumber, Roush-Yates, MasterSbilt Chevrolet; followed closely at the stripe by Owens in the Reece Monument Company, Gantte Appraisals, Bloomquist Race Cars Ford. Miller, the 2007 winner of the Jackson 100 came home fourth just in front of Wall, who maintains his Quarter Master "Rookie of the Year" points lead with an impressive fifth place run. Completing the top ten were; Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH; Jeep VanWormer of Pinconning, MI; Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI; and 14-year-old Tyler Redthingy of Corning, CA. In preliminary action on Saturday Night, Heat Race winners were Don O'Neal, Scott Bloomquist, Chris Wall, and Jimmy Owens. Zack Dohm and Donnie Moran took the B-Mains. Series Announcer, James Essex, of Hope, IN was inducted into the Brownstown Speedway Hall of Fame during the intermission prior to the 100-lap main event. Essex began announcing for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in its first year, and has become the famous "Voice of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series". He began his career when he was 14 years old at Brownstown Speedway, and announced there for the next 21 years before taking to the highways and announcing on the national dirt late model touring circuits. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will conclude it's 2010 racing season with two events in the State of Georgia. On Saturday Night, October 9th the Lucas Oil "Dixie Shootout" at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA awaits the stars of the LOLMDS. The Lucas Oil Shootout will be shot in front of the cameras of SPEED for broadcast at a later date. It all comes down to the Lucas Oil "Rome Showdown on Sunday Night, October 10th, to decide who will win the 2010 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Title. Both events will pay $10,000 to win.
