26th Annual Tulsa Shootout – The Basics…
Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (December 29, 2010) – A world record count of more than 700 Micro Sprint Cars flooded into Tulsa Fairgrounds QuikTrip Center on Wednesday for the running of this weekend’s 26th Annual Tulsa Shootout.
The first all open-wheel edition of the storied Tulsa Shootout features six classes of Micro Sprint Cars along with the ASCS Chevy Ecotec Midgets and 1200cc Non-Wing Micro Sprint with heat races on Thursday evening and Friday setting the New Year stage for Saturday’s feature action.
Competitors from at least 23 different states as well as Canada and Australia are set to shoot it out atop the 1/5-mile Tulsa Expo Raceway clay oval inside the QuikTrip Center. Among the entries is defending Chili Bowl Nationals champion Kevin Swindell, who captured his first pair of Golden Drillers with Kart triumphs in 2001 and 2002.
A number of other scheduled Chili Bowl competitors will take advantage of the opportunity to get an early look at the track this weekend, including the likes of six-time Shootout winner Donnie Ray Crawford, Gary Taylor, Kevin Ramey and Tim Crawley among others.
Defending Tulsa Shootout champions include California’s Ryan Reeves (Outlaw), Crawford (“A” Class), Chris Andrews (Non-Wing), Josiah Ribeiro (Junior Sprints) and Kevin Bayer (Bixby, OK). Last year’s Restricted “A” Class winner Darien Roberts of Broken Arrow moves up to the Outlaw, Outlaw Non-Wing, “A” and Non-Wing classes.
